Statement
My artistry unfolds in vibrant watercolors, capturing the essence of landscapes, wildlife, and woodland wonders.
Victoria, British Columbia has been my home for almost 30 years. Enamoured with the forests, plants, polliwogs and other woodland critters in the Laurentian mountains north of my birthplace Montreal, I studied forest sciences at the University of New Brunswick. I wanted to travel, see exotic places and further my education so I continued my studies in Australia. I returned to Canada to work as a wildfire specialist and then managed a forest research facility. My day job in forestry and science has fed my appetite to enable the best in others, question and learn. My creative soul has been nourished by drawing and painting since I was in elementary school.
Drawing and painting carry me to a quiet, creative world . . .one where time stands still. I work in watercolours, acrylics and pen and ink. I like to fuse my passion for adventures in nature - hiking, biking and kayaking – with painting, often en plein air. My drawings and paintings capture the people, vistas, wildlife, and woodlands that I have had the privilege to marvel upon. Each image represents a peaceful moment, a reflection and a learning. I enjoy plein air painting with the Victoria Alfrescoes and Westshore Artists, Life drawing at the Metchosin ArtPod, and am a member of ArtSea and Studio 30. I produce original works, and limited edition prints, and cards, and have exhibited with Studio 30, the Metchosin ArtPod, Gage Gallery and the Sidney ArtWalk. It is the expressive journey that I enjoy, bettered by those along the ride.
